For all those bird lovers............

26 Feb 08 10:03 pm
Love birds, Pigeons, Cocks, Hens, African love birds, Parrots, Fan tail pigeons, Fowls and what not…....There are also guinea pigs, rabbits, fishes, bird feeds, cuttle bones etc…....

If u r a bird lover and wish to grow birds as pets…. then this is a good place to check out…..It is called the Sunday market near Parrys (Police Quarters, Munnady) next to Prakasam Salai…... This starts early in the morning and disperses by 10 am …..after which there is not even a single clue that there was a market there some hours before…..

It was Mr Jai Karthik (the famous Indian Ring Neck breeder in Chennai), my friend who took me and Harry to this market last Sunday…..Though a small market which is just a street full, it has so much that u keep gaping…. And u can get all ur favorits for a nice bargain…...I was really excited seeing the guinea pigs, fan tailed pigeons and the colorful rabbits.

We were roaming there, seeing all the birds with our eyes wide open and taking shots of some cute birds (of course with their permission).....Jai was astonished and sure would have even thought what are these crazy people up to….

From there, we followed Jai to his home in Madipakkam where he has his farm (breeds Indian Ring Necks)...... We were amazed to see the different colours in Parakeets or Parrots or whatever you call them….. He says hell lot of names for birds which I can never thrust in my little brain…..And so cute were those just born chicks which hatched from the eggs…..To top it all, he has Gimmy to guard his IRN’s (Indian Ring Necks).....

Mr Jai has a cute talking pet called Tweety who is a cockatoo and is one year old….. But Tweety does not like strangers. He even hesitated to come out and see us. Jai later managed to bring him out to the room where we were sitting. Whatever it is, mine was love at first sight seeing Tweety. :-)

Jai is one guy, who is among very few in Tamilnadu, breeding Indian Ring Necks purely out of passion. He does not stop with this. He voluntarily gives suggestions and help to people who grow birds including me. This guy is Mr. Bird Doctor as I often call him.

For those, who need to know more about birds and breeding and especially about Indian Ring Necks, Jai can be contacted at karthik_budgie at yahoo.com and at 9884044145….

It was a wonderful birdy Sunday for us and after coming back home I had to concentrate on Cindy and Snowy (the cute Budgies and Finches), my pets….......

EVAM ROCKS......

11 Feb 08 10:23 am
It was a fine sunday evening, and I had the opportunity to watch a play called ART (Thanks to Harry) by EVAM in Sivagami Pethachi auditorium. What followed after I sat in the auditorium was sheer laughter and fun which I am sure I had after looooooooong time…..

First about Evam – They call themselves a stress busting factory (very true) – a promising Theater group started few years back in our city to make us all feel proud – Thanks to Mr Karthik Kumar and Mr Sunil for having started it and giving real entertainment through their plays in different places like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad.

Now about the Play – It’s all about a piece of art and how it makes a 15 year long friendship go haywire. A serious comedy involving 3 friends, Serge, Marc and Ivan who are friends for 15 years. Serge develops an interest for modern art and buys a large, expensive and almost white painting. Marc doesnt like this and describes the painting as shit and from then, marc and serge find tough time to get back their relationship to normal. Ivan is a nice soft guy, trying to please both Marc and Serge and make things better but it ends up otherwise. Whether the three friends get compromised or not is the remaining plot. The team was awesome, the depiction of characters and the innovations made needs a special applause.

This definitely reminded me of my friends and it certainly will remind urs too. A real classy rib tickling comedy to watch and have fun that comes with a take home message too…..

About Karthik Kumar – Such a wonderful theater artist who is so humble, down to earth, easily approachable and what not…... The way he treated us, gave autograph, said ok for photographs were all admirable. The most admirable was his autograph which he calls cryptic…..Should learn lots from this humble man…...:-)

A special mention about Sunil, who did the role of Ivan – The play rocked from the minute of his entry – What expressions man – It was awesome – Such a pleasure watching him do the role…..

And here it goes…... This post is definitely not a marketing strategy to make people watch EVAM…..But an appreciation note on EVAM to say, Chennai is proud to have such groups with International standards….. Three cheers to EVAM….....

P.S. – For all guys who would like to dig more on Evam and dont want to miss their plays- check this out….. www.evam.co.in
Happy watching…......I was lucky….. Are you???

Programme with a difference

3 Dec 07 08:42 am
Dr. Kamal Haasan, the super actor known for his caring and daring attitude once again has proved that he is the best, by his campaign on HIV/AIDS.

Spotted on 29th November in Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women for a programme to prevent stigma and discrimination against HIV/AIDS, he not only made a promise but made the whole lot of students and gathering present there to take a pledge on ensuring equal rights for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Campaigns on HIV/AIDS most of the time concentrate on prevention aspects but this one was a way bit different in its approach on concentrating on the rights of PLHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) and the stigma and discrimination that the society shows towards PLHA.

The campaign was a joint venture by NACO, HEROES project, UN and TANSACS where the dignitaries talked about HIV prevalence, prevention and mainly concentrated on the discrimination against PLHA in all walks of life. The behaviour of people should change and PLHA should be treated like brothers and sisters. PLHA have equal rights like any other human being which are often denied. They have to be ensured equality in all aspects. The importance of this was felt when Ms. Padmavathi, a positive herself spoke about her experience in life after she knew she was positive, followed by peoples stigma and discrimination against her and how she overcome everything with a real zeal which turned to be a heart melting moment.

Being a nutritionist and having worked in HIV field for quite some time, I felt how true it was and how I was helpless seeing all the stigma and discrimination against PLHA. The maximum I could do was to sympathize for them and help if it comes under my control. I have always wanted the Government to take initiative in this and now can obviously feel the difference seeing all these campaigns.

And that was the crux of the programme which was followed by pledge taking in Tamil and English and signing on a graffiti board promising to uphold rights of PLHA. It was a wonderful day for a wonderful cause for sure.

So next time when you come across a person living with HIV/AIDS, do not sympathize, do not criticize, do not discriminate but treat them as u want to be treated by others.

If the super actor can prove his caring attitude, we too can, not by taking the pledge alone, but by putting it in action Lets make it right. Real right.. Take the pledge and pass the message

India celebrates diwali on 8th/9th nov 2007. And we as part of cheneye, are driving a goodwill campaign to celebrate it with the city.

We will decorate the city / light up candles/oil lamps in street corners, parks, wherever out attitude takes us.. (and cops permit us, if some of them are around not celebrating diwali themselves).

We are meeting today (8th nov 07) at Panagal Park, TNagar, at 5:30pm, to start the drive. If you would like to join us in celebrating the city, volunteer by calling harish (at 99401 66638). Don’t email..since it is today that we are doing it, we may not be able to regularly check mails. We would love to see as many people who would be interested.

We are planning another campaign tomorrow.. you can join us tomorrow also.
