If people have travelled in Chennai city buses, they should have noticed that the seats immediate to the entry and exit doors are reserved for the physically challenged people and the old aged. How many of us ever realise that and leave the seats for them when we see them getting into the bus. For that matter, I never occupy those seats even when they are empty thinking it will be occupied by the needy. But to my shock, the seats would have been filled up by hale and healthy young kids who keep watching the oldies standing. And the pitiable thing is that the old people themselves don’t consider this as their right to occupy those seats. I get irritated by these. Can’t the conductors do something about these? They usually come into the picture only if a fight springs up.
I have often got irritated travelling in the city buses because the last rows in the buses which are meant for ladies are often occupied by “Gentlemen” who don’t even consider leaving the seats seeing many women standing with handful of luggages. I personally have witnessed accidents because of women standing with luggages without proper balance to hold the bars in the bus and ultimately falling down when there is a sudden break. And the ladies have to beg these men for the seats reserved for ladies only.
But one interesting thing coming up in the city buses are the electronic tickets which is a nice move to prevent ticketless passengers. And those sophisticated deluxe buses. Comforts rise so are the ticket prices. But the conducters still don’t move to the passenger’s place to issue the tickets. It is either the passengers have to move or the tickets passed. Huh…..
Where does Hyderabad come from?
I frequent to Hyderabad and one particular thing I liked about Hyderabad is about the reserved seats for Physically challenged and old people. Young people don’t occupy those seats and old aged people and physically challenged persons consider it as their rights to occupy those seats and drive other people away if they have occupied it. I once had occupied the seat in the second row which was meant for old aged people thinking I have done a big thing leaving the first seat for physically challenged. As and when, the seats got filled up, an old man came directly to me and asked me to get up and I got up immediately saying a sorry. I was amazed. And, would you believe? the Conductor kept moving to issue tickets. No passing of the tickets at all. I liked that.
When will Chennai ever change?????? But, I still love Chennai….. |
